Tuross Heads 16th & 17th February

Back south we journey through Batemans Bay and on another 50klm to stay with caravanning friends, Bonnie and Jim who we first met on the Gibb River Road, north Western Australia in 2015. We have since kept contact throughout both couples travels and have managed to visit eachother a few times.

The south coast of NSW is a special place with really nice townships along the way and a pretty spectacular coastline to boot. Jim and Bonnie have relocated here in 2018 and this visit is our first time here. Tuross Heads sits at the eastern tip of a long narrow peninsula, a land bridge between Colla Lake, Tuross Lake and the Pacific Ocean at the tip. This township was threatened by a huge raging bushfire, however, a last minute change of wind direction saved the day without losing a single township dwelling. The outflow from both lakes after recent rain has caused large amounts of burnt branches, foliage and ash to pile on the beach.

With the Lotus parked on their front lawn we enjoyed a couple of days in their new home with magnificent northerly views over the golf course, Colla Lake and up the long expanse of ocean beach. With their local knowledge we enjoyed an afternoon tour of Tuross Heads, drinks on the balcony and a lovely home cooked meal.

On Monday we piled into Jims big Yankee ute to tour further afeild down through Narooma and out to Tilba Tilba (no I don’t have a stutter), a small beautiful rural township on a ridgeline, renowned for its local foods, very much “Paddock to Plate” made famous by Australias “River Cottage” series.

We finished the journey with a late seafood lunch at the Quarterdeck Restaurant on the wharf at Narooma, just a great day out.
